There is an article in the July issue of Garden Rail on how to build these wagons.
These wagons are only suitable for 32mm gauge.
Due to limited storage space we are currently only making these kits up on demand which is why the listing says pre-order but they should go out within a day of being ordered.
Due to problems with the original tooling they do not have brakegear and are supplied with Binney Wheels and axleboxes and material to make 3mm axles. Binney small Carmarthen couplings are included which can be configured as standard, hook and chain or drop link.
Following the opening of the LNWR standard gauge branch from Betws-y-Coed to Blaenau Ffestiniog on 1st April 1881 an exchange yard was built to the north of the station to make connection with the Oakley and other quarries in the vicinity. To work the traffic from these quarries over the 2ft gauge metals Euston built special 2ft gauge wagons at their Earlstown works. The slate wagons were very similar to the Ffestiniog Railway and indeed GWR types, but the LNWR did build a very attractive design of end door coal wagon which is the subject of this kit. Not only is the wagon suitable for a model of he Ffestiniog district slate railways but its pleasing proportions and similarity to wagons used on underground mine railways and clay workings give the model great potential for the freelance railway.
